Way to regain respect and regain trust
The General Election of the country is around the corner This General
Election which is number 13 is termed as the mother of elections. This
is so because it is believed that which ever side wins there will be a
great change to the country. The change will come, whether we like it
or not.
You may ask who cause the change and why. My answer is it is caused by
people who hold the finances of the country. They do it to ensure they
continue to hold power to safeguard their positions.
Coming back to the issue under discussion, it is under such atmosphere
of General Election that the people invariably put political parties
contesting under review and MCA is no exception.
You know very well, of late, MCA is very much in need of respect and
trust. Respect from it own peers especially from UMNO and trust from
the people. The people have already viewed MCA as an irrelevant party.
It is riddle with bad leadership at all levels and unable to represent
the Chinese effectively in the government.
Urgent action needs to be taken to restore the respect and trust. You
may ask what type of actions that can be considered effective. Well,
my suggestion is, go back to basic. Leaders must be sincere and
honest.
Ensure every member of the party exercise his or her rights to vote
for their leaders of all levels of the party, right down from the
President to the branch leadership. Member will feel he or she has a
meaningful role to play in the party. The system of using delegates
should be abolished. Delegate system opens to fraud.
A President elected by members direct and not by delegates will gain
much better respect from his peers than a President elected under a
faulty delegate system.
Ensure all major decisions affecting the party whether within or
without especially confronting other parties within the National Front
should always be obtained by way of a Referendum. This will enhance
the value of the mandate. And hence, it will gain more weight and
respect.

Comment on Solid team in Penang MCA new lineup
What have I to say. In fact I do not have much to comment on.
There were many adverse comments from the public at coffee shop when
the news of the line up was published. What was significant is MCA is
using old and unwanted stuff. It would appear it could not find new
faces to run the show.
In a way I am really ashame though I am not involved in the line up.
I guess YB Dato Dr. Ng Yen Yen is playing safe and she tried to
include everyone, the active and dead wood.
I really do not know why. The image of our YB Dato Dr. had sunk so
tremendously low since she was appointed as Chair person of the Penang
State Liaison Committee. It could be she had made some far fetch
public statements trying to hoodwink the public. For example, in
connection with the Hulu Selangor by-election, she said she would send
500 wanita there to help which was not possible. She was either
ignorant of the fact that the MCA wanita had been dead for years with
a few old ladies showing their faces or she was speaking through her
head.
Another far fetch public statement she made was that she would
recapture Penang in the coming general election. To the public this
was another empty statement.
Having all the defeated and discarded leaders holding position, do you
think she can do it? I am sorry for what I have said. This is the
truth and the truth always hurts.
It is so apparent the young had abandoned MCA leaving the old and some
businessmen are still supporting the MCA. If MCA does not realize
this, let it be.
A few hours ago, I attended the EGM of the Penang Chinese Chamber of
Commerce. The young group showed no face to the elder group who
happened to be MCA leaders. What a shame. I think you will see what
had happened in the news tonight.
Best regards,
Dr. Chan

Why Don't Members Of The BN Demand For A Constitution
Why don’t members of the Barisan Nasional demand for a Constitution?
Barisan Nasional – Component Parties in this coalition must be brave to make frequent reminder to all concerned publicly that it is a coalition founded on mutual respect and consensus. Without this co-existence, in another word, if substantial number of members were to withdraw from the Barisan Nasional those remaining would not be able to run the country effectively.
Mr. Koh Yong Siang of Sanakan had written ‘Give member parties power to hire and fire’. His article appeared in ‘The Star- Saturday dated 19.Dec.2009.
In the article Mr. Koh seemed to have accepted the supremacy of UMNO which lorded over the rest of the component Parties and he advocated that each component Party should be given back its rights in running the Party without interference.
In my opinion the act of lording over the rest of the component Parties by UMNO should not had allowed to happen if component Parties were brave enough to stand up for their rights and to put a stop to any malpractices within the coalition.
What I see, even till to date, the President of UMNO, being the Chairman of the Barisan Nasional is the one who calls the shot while others voluntary surrender their rights without any question, even though the action of the Chairman may appear to be considered as interference on any component Party when certain problems arises in that Party.
It could be, there are three important factors apart from others that could have created such situation.
(1) Barisan Nasional has no written Constitution which spells out the responsibilities and rights of its members.( I can’t figure out why the Registrar of Societies did not act on this)
(2) The Chairman of the Barisan Nasional has the full power to vet all names which
are submitted by component Parties as candidates in state and parliamentary
elections.( This is definitely against the spirit of co-existence)
(3) The Chairman being the Prime minister has the absolute power to appoint
any elected members into the Ministries as Ministers or assistant ministers or
secretaries. Or he may appoint any one by way of making him a senator.
Thus, you see how powerful the President of UMNO is. Until and unless, a written Constitution is written the hope of correcting the imbalance of power within the Barisan will be just a dream.

MCA Bayan Baru Division Assembly - Disgraceful Behaviour of Ex-Deputy Chairman
The Annual General Meeting of Bayan Baru Division held on 28-6-09 was a real disgrace. Those members who attended the meeting were very much upset at the antics displayed by the Ex-Deputy Chairman who was defeated miserably at the recent party election...
This Ex-Deputy Chairman whom we also call Mr. Deaf had been boastfully telling MCA members before the party election that he could defeat any member who would challenge him but the result of the election proved otherwise. Feeling ashamed and loss of face he disappeared from the election centre like a pariah dog that was badly bitten in a fight and ran off with its tail curled in between its two hind legs.
Ever since he was booted out of office, he bore a grudge against those he disliked. He wrote several poisonous letters and circulated them among the members. He even wrote complaining letters to MCA HQ. in KL. with the view to invalidate certain branches.
He came to this AGM on 28-6-09 just to save his own face and also to satisfy his ego that he was still somebody in Bayan Baru Division. He made a fuss at the meeting by uttering filthy words and showing bad signs to those he disliked. He even challenged some members to a fight. The Chairman could not do anything but to cut short the meeting to prevent any untoward incident.
We were told that he was a retired teacher. With such outburst of morally decadent behaviour by him, made us wonder how he could ever become a teacher in the first place We take pity on those parents whose children were taught by him.
Now many members agree that he should be disciplined. Others are glad that this trouble-maker had already been disposed of and will not be able to make a comeback - good riddance. To me, he should be expelled from the party. He is no longer relevant and will be a liability to the party especially at this juncture where the image of the MCA party in Penang is at its lowest ebb.
In our Malaysian society we have one word that best describes him. The word is " Pariah " . At the end of the day, we all look at him as that.

It looks the Division really needs improvement
Taken at the AGM Bayan Baru Division on 28.06.09 at Chung Shang School Hall, Bayan Lepas.
The keenness of delegates was very lacking.
Out of 144 delegates only 28 (including Bureau & Observer) attended. Some couldn't bother to wear party uniform.
Significant absentees were, Wanita Chairman, 2 Vice Chairmen and Treasurer. Of the total 32 branches, only 7 branch Chairmen (PK01, PK03, PK05, PK06, PK18, PK21, PK33) attended the AGM.
Nothing interesting or important issue was debated for adoption.
Moreover, he was a retired teacher. His uneducated behaviour in the meeting was very unbecoming of a teacher. The poor Speaker and some of the committee members managed, after some time, to prevent him from obstructing the smooth running of the meeting. The meeting had to be concluded quickly.
I think some sort of disciplinary action aught to be taken.
