The show is over

The curtain has been lowered. Everyone including the delegates was hurriedly packing up, preparing to leave to return to take care of their own affairs. Nobody seemed to care about the importance of the Annual General Meeting (AGM). It was the election of the leaders they were interested in. Only a few who had the concern of the Party remained behind to tidy up and conclude the AGM.

The press did a good job in praising the success of the AGM and the success of the Peace Plan. It was presumed the gullible public was well hoodwinked to believe things are running well. Soon everything will be back to normal. Nothing will change. The word “Change” is merely a slogan. Such scenario will be repeated every three to four years.

Had there been Citizen- Journalists (CJ) around and had video recorded the whole proceeding of the AGM and had it accorded to the public, I am sure the public and those members who had no access to the AGM could have the actual view and felt the actual atmosphere of the AGM,  would see it in a different light. 

In my opinion the MCA (Party) is utterly down trodden, shameful and condemned. Even the Prime Minister in his speech warned, shamed and condemned the Party and its leadership.

The PM warned the leaders with these words, “It is not a wake-up call. It is the last call” What sadden me was that when this warning was given, there was sound of hand clapping of cheer was heard. I wonder what was the clapping about. Again when the Prime Minister made a shameful fun of the leadership by asking them to take Viagra, the same clapping of hands were heard. Later I came to know that those who clapped did not know what they were clapping for. They clapped just because someone clapped. In actual fact, they could not understand what the PM said. How disgraceful they were.    

Look at the list of names of the so called newly elected leadership. There was no election at all. They were selected as a result of the peace plan. The delegates were given the order to select as ordered. You may ask how could this happen. Every delegate was supposed to have a free mind to choose. My answer to this is they were the delegates created from phantom members by self interest leaders to secure their positions.   

Can the Party make a change to regain the support of the Malaysian Chinese? I leave it to you to provide the answer.

Dr.Chan commented why MCA cannot change.

I do agree with you. If no significant change, the party will remain irrelevant to the Malaysian Chinese except to a few towkays.

You wonder why MCA is unable to change? My answer is that  it is due to the faulty system of the party. (1) Full power of decision and control lies on the Chairman at every level. As you know power corrupts.(2) The delegate system of selection of leadership.As you further know delegates can be generated by phantom members (3) The power of appointment to position. It is always misused and (4) No benchmark laid out to those who holds important posts.

Any Dick, Tom, and Harry can be chairman through popular vote without any educational qualification. 

I am sure present leaders love to maintain such system. We need a honest and brave leader to do a change.

Ray of Hope

Ray of hope:

The concluded MCA EGM on 20^th.Oct 2013 has turned out to be very valuable to the Party. From the presence of 90 plus percent delegates it showed members still love the Party and have faith in the Party. From the result of the voting it showed delegates are matured and they knew what are good for the Party, although of course, there must be some who could have been be influenced by money politics and voted against their conscience without due regard to the future of the Party.

Every political conscious Malaysian Chinese, whether he is a member of the Party or not, have the perception of that, the President was using the opportunity of the EGM to annihilate his deputy for opposing his decision to isolate the Party by not participating in all government machinery. This decision was mooted by him in the first instance and later the Central Committee was forced to support this decision. Thus, the delegates being influenced by the Committee confirmed this fatal decision in the AGM. To call for the reversal of this fatal decision was too hard to bear to the egoistic President.

This EGM has clearly set who would be the next President. The coming AGM in December 2013 will confirm him, unless there is a black horse suddenly appear and pose a challenge.

The, would be President should by now dissimilate his Manifesto to all members, announcing his plan for the future of the Party, its directions, its policies, and most important how to get rid of deadwood in the Party. The Deputy President had announced what his plans are, immediately after the EGM. It was well received. But, we would like to have from him his detail strategy.

Talking about deadwood, in Penang state you see there are many. With them still around I dare say, the Party will still be looked upon as ill-relevant to the Malaysian Chinese.

ILLEGAL CENTRAL DELEGATES

Illegal Central Delegates:

This is written with the intention of reminding the MCA Steering Committee of the Federal level to be cautious to ensure all Central Delegates voting for the coming Wanita and MCA are legally accepted delegates.

So far, I have not seen any Division Committee had performed their swearing-in ceremony to legalize their position even though the election to form Division Committee had been done.

Most of the Division Chairman, be it from the Wanita or MCA are not elected Central Delegates. They have the rights as Central Delegates by virtue of being the Division Chairman. If there was no swearing-in to confirm their acceptance of Chairmanship, then it is illegal for them to vote at the Federal level. Should this point is over-looked, problem may arise later and re-election may have to take place if there is a complaint and the Registrar of Societies directs so.

In the same manner, any Division Committee which did not carry out the swearing-in ceremony, receiving acceptance from its elected or appointed members, the Division Committee should not be recognized as legal.

Comment on MCA EGM 20th Oct. 2013

My view on the coming MCA EGM on 20^th.Oct 2013

My view may not be accepted by certain group but being a life member of the Party I love I have to voice out my discontent in the hope that the leadership may take heed and mend their ways to rebuild the Party relevant to the Malaysian Chinese again.

In the first instance this coming EGM on the 20^th.Oct 2013 to make amend should not come about had the leadership not made the fatal mistake in the tactical move of isolating itself from participating in the government machinery. It is futile to blame anyone in particular. The whole gang of the leadership from the President down to every committee members must bear responsibility.

Normally, in such situation, those responsible should by themselves voluntarily resign and make way for others. But this is not the case. Those responsible instead use the EGM as a weapon to defeat opposition and to entrench themselves. They have been successful using the EGM to gain control during the time of Ex-President Ong Tee Keat.

The delegate system of electing leaders to run the Party is the worst system. Delegates can be easily manipulated by any faction who can provide more benefit. This trend of manipulation is now more pronounced. It had seeped down to division level. I had observed this in the latest division election. This trend must stop. It is very very unhealthy. I only hope and pray delegates realize this danger and make the right decision in this coming EGM.

Leaders of the Party should realize it is their duty to re-organize and get the Party accepted by the Malaysian Chinese. In doing so they must now re-analyze the Malaysian Chinese psyche and human values so as to find the right direction to form policies acceptable to them. Thus, make the Party relevant again.
